Stop the Meow-ncrease!
Why Spaying and Neutering Matters for Our Feline Friends
The sun-drenched streets of Paphos are full of charm, history… and cats. Lots of cats. While these furry companions add their own purr-sonality to the city, the sheer number has become a serious concern. Enter the meow-gical solution: spaying and neutering!
Think of it like this: ONE unspayed female cat can have up to THREE litters a year, with EACH litter averaging FOUR to SIX kittens. That’s a LOT of tiny paws in a short time! The result? Overcrowded streets, overwhelmed shelters, and cats struggling to survive.
But here’s the good news: spaying and neutering is a paw-sitive game-changer. It’s not just about controlling the population, it’s about giving cats a healthier, happier life.
What are the benefits?
- Calmer Companions: Neutered cats tend to be less aggressive and territorial, making them easier to live with and less likely to roam.
- Healthier cats: Spaying prevents uterine cancer and infections, while neutering reduces spraying and fighting.
- Fewer Strays: Uncontrolled breeding leads to suffering, with many cats facing hunger, disease and danger.

Investing in tomorrow
Spaying a female cat in Paphos typically costs between €95 and €100, while neutering a male is closer to €70 and €90. Although it might seem like a big expense, it’s far cheaper than dealing with the long-term costs of an uncontrolled cat population.
Thanks to the generosity of amazing local vets dedicated, TNR Angels (as we like to call them) have managed to agree a discount for spaying and neutering. The discounted rates are as follows: Females €45 and Males €35. This incredibe discount gives our efforts to manage the stray cat population a huge boost and we’re deeply grateful for their support.
This year, Paphos Purrs has been inundated with kittens. Our resources are stretched thin, and without spaying and neutering, this years kitten season could be catastrophic. That’s why we’re focusing on partnering with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) specialists in 2024.
Dental Bonus: While your feline friend is under anaesthesia for their spaying or neutering, we at Paphos Purrs recommend taking a peek at their pearly whites if you have any dental concerns.
Dental issues are common in cats, and addressing them while they’re already asleep is often easier and cheaper than a separate dental procedure.
Consider adding an extra €55 to your donation to give your furry friend a healthy smile along with their new lease on life!
